| Patios and decks are perfect in catching the sun. Nothing comes better than watching the sunrise while the morning breeze blows into to your face while you are in your deck. But a patio that is not maintained properly may turn into disaster especially when you have a toddler that keeps roaming around the house. They jump, they crawl, they run endlessly like there is no tomorrow. Their energy is unbelievable. So if you love that open space in front of your house, you better take care of it seriously. The railings of your deck may pose danger to your toddler kid more than you thought it would. The spaces between them are very inviting to your kid’s curiosity and will find ways to squeeze in their frail bodies on it. And when that happens, there is a pretty good chance that they will get stuck and won’t be able to get out until someone sees them and helps them out. The solution to this is to install a net called Deck Shield. This is place along the banisters and the railing. Since the spaces between the railings are blocked by the net, this will discourage your kid from trying to squeeze in. Since nothing can stop your kid from running around the house, you must find time to inspect carefully for any nails or screws that are protruding. It is not hard to imagine what happens if someone steps on it. The wounds that would be brought by the injury may cause infection which will lead to bigger problems. So make sure that no nails and screws are exposed. Weathered wood would also pose a problem to a toddler who is use to going around the house in barefoot. Splinters will be a sure thing to happen when your kid steps on a weather portion of your deck. It is important that you sand it immediately and reseal the area. Underneath your deck may have something that can harm your kid? If you have not yet put a skirt around it then you might want to consider putting one. It is a common practice to put your gardening tools underneath to hide it from the eyes of your visitors. But the space underneath of your patio will be another good chance for your kid to show his stubbornness. Your grass cutter will be the first thing that your kid will play around with and the next thing you knew drops of blood is all over the place. So make sure to keep out all your gardening tools from your kids reach. Water spouts or electrical wires hidden beneath your patio will also be a threat to the safety of your kid. While it may be extra money coming out of your pocket if you have it inspected by a professional, considering the hazard of flawed deck brings to your family. It will release you from the hassle of doing the inspection yourself and you better believe it, it’s truly worth it. One more thing, the keen eye of a professional will notice it right away if a certain portion needs a repair or additions to ensure the safety of everyone.
